Patroit's Essay

When you think about patriotism what does it mostly remind you of? Patriotism is important because people respect their country, home and the men and women that risk their lives. For a long period of time we had presidents. Starting out with George Washington and now ending up with Barak Obama, we respect them which show patriotism. Patriotism can also see when we say the pledge, celebrate Memorial Day, and show support for our military.

Our country is being protected by the military. For me, I respect the military because I have a brother in the air force. I just wonder what’s it’s like to have a dad in a military. My brother Ryan has three daughters. I would think it’s hard because they kind of move a lot. They lived in California than four years ago they moved to Texas. I also have another brother that's thinking about joining the air force. I also have some family that was in the U.S. army. So it’s a big deal for me. If you had family or a close friend in the military would you be supportive?

While the military is one place where we show patriotism, we also see it on Memorial Day. My dad manages cemeteries all threw out Wisconsin. Every Memorial day he has over 100 flags put up throughout his main cemetery (Wisconsin Memorial, on Capitol Drive) Anyway those flags are to honor the men and women that died to keep our country safe. So you can tell there are people in the world that really do respect the United States.

We celebrate Memorial Day once a year but, every day we say the pledge. Every day we usually say the same thing, “The Pledge of Allegiance.” At school we say it; at the beginning of sports we say it. We also sing our National Anthem. Now why would you think we say that? I know, because that’s the perfect way to honor that we have a safe place to live in. That is why patriotism is still important in the United States of America.
