Authors Note: My story is about… A girl that moves into a new town and the house she moves into is Haunted. Some parts of the story somehow connect about how I moved to Wisconsin but, there were no haunted houses.

What’s scarier than seeing a ghost? I have no idea but, it was pretty creepy. It all started on a Monday morning. I just moved to California. Living in a small town named Holtville, right on the border to Mexico. I just moved here. I use to live in New Jersey. Had awesome friends and lived in a awesome house. But, my dad had to take a new job to get paid more. Only about $300 more then what he was getting paid before. I’m pretty upset about this move but, I’m the kind of child that doesn’t complain out loud.

We just pulled up to the house. It was all old and rusted. “Not to happy right now.” I told my mom. "Oh come on Stephanie. This will be so much fun!” My mom told me 24/7. I rolled my eyes as she smiled at me. Then I turn around. My annoying little brother Max runs by and pushes me out of the way. I fall to the ground with my suitcases flying everywhere. “Max! What’s your problem?!” I screamed. I got up and dusted myself off. My mom gave me the look to help me but I gave her a look to just go away. She frowned and then she grabbed Max’s hand and went inside the house. I turned around. I ran over by my dad. “Need help?” He looks over by me with the boxes in his hand. “No thanks sweetie” I smile. Then, I hear my mom scream. I jump out of the truck and run inside. She was lying on the floor and I look up the stairs and Max is up their crying. I yell for my dad. He runs in and calls 911 and I try to calm down.

All I could remember from last night was how my mom ended up in the E.R. How horrifying. Today I was supposed to start my first day of 8th grade and Max first day of 3rd. But dad let us stay be hide for mom. When she woke up she told us what happened. Max only told us she fell down the stair but mom said. “It was weird. Max and I were exploring the house together. Then I felt pushing in my chest as we walked up the stairs. Just when we got up to the top of the stairs, something ran up to me and pushed me down the stairs.” I was scared. What would do something like that?

The next couple days went by. By then it was Thursday. I decided to go to school. When I got there everyone was so friendly. By first hour I had to friends. One was named Katie. She had long brown hair and she was Mexican. My other new friend was Sara. She had orange hair and was very sweet. I loved this school everything was the same as my old school. The town was so small. It had flowers everywhere. Everyone was so happy. Until, it came to a stop. Sara and Katie asked me where I lived and they frowned. Katie asked “Did the ghost leave?” I looked puzzled. Sara punched Katie in the arm. “You idiot you don’t ask someone that!” They looked at me. “What ghost?” Sara and Katie looked puzzled to. Then they sat down, looking upset. Then a teacher ran over to me and whispered in my ear. I jumped and ran with her out of the room.

It was when my dad picked me up from school. He yelled at me to into the car. I jumped in. He was crying. “Dad, what happened?” He looked at me and then looked back at the road. “DAD!” I knew it wasn’t mom… I look into his eyes. Then I thought of Max... I got to the main street entering my house. All there was police and a car crash. Only my mom’s car flipped upside down. My dad told me that Max was sitting in the car waiting for my dad to take him to school. All of a sudden the car started to roll or I should say, the car started to drive. Max wasn’t paying attention till it started to go faster and faster than normally. Max was fine, just a broken arm.

The Spring Assessment.

Do you ever wonder what’s it like to take orders from someone and listen to their every command? In the short story “The Hundredth Dove,” the king’s fowler named Hugh was a hunter. He hunted birds. Hugh used a bow for the larger bird and he used a silken net for smaller birds. There are two major themes you must think about after you read this short story. The two themes are Love and Magic. You may think at some a part of the story, Hugh is a bad man but really he is caring.
The first theme is Love, in the beginning of “The Hundredth Dove,” the king summons Hugh to go capture 100 doves for the upcoming wedding. Lady Columbia, the new queen does not want this Action to happen but, the king says “I have spoken. Do not fail me.” At that part you can realize that Lady Columbia has a heart and does not want to hunt that many doves. As Hugh went to go capture the doves, every day he was catching a beautiful white dove. The white dove escaped through the small net, when there was no hole inside. At the end when Hugh has captured all 100 doves he stops hunting and lives off of fruit and vegetables.  In this moment of the story, you know that Hugh feels terrible about his previous actions.
As the first theme is important the second theme is also very important. The second theme of “The Hundredth Dove,” is magic. When Hugh captures the 21 birds the first day all them are grey/blue but only one is white. The white dove somehow escapes. Hugh wonders and studies the net to see if there were any rips inside it. Then he realized there were no holes. For the next day he caught 21 again. All the birds are the same but, only one white. Again the white dove escaped. This same pattern happened over and over again till the last day he was one away from 99 doves. The only dove left was the white one and he caught it. The dove somehow spoke and was saying “Master fowler, set me free.”  He wanted to set that bird free but he said to the king “Servo” which means “I serve.” So he killed that dove.
Those are the two themes of “The Hundredth Dove.” Having Love about nature, when Lady Columbia didn’t want to kill or serve any doves ate her wedding. That is probably why there was no wedding after all. Yes, at the end of the story Hugh goes back to the castle with all the birds and it turns out there was no wedding. Also the second theme is having Magic with a very tricky bird to catch when the bird flew out of the net.
